Long time no chat- look what I made today!

Oh boy was it warm today! I crafted this light weight beauty to go out in tonight, I used two shirts that I had previously thrifted to make this sort of tube top halter thing.

Just for me!

I made the pattern for this from a shirt that I love, and now I have another shirt that I love! This was fun, I got to play with stretchy stitches, making casings (ribbon tie at the side), and also worked with clear elastic (concealed in bottom hem). The elastic in the hem is to make sure that the bottom stays form fitting, and doesn't stretch out and get floppy.

Just Warming Up

Since I broke out my sewing machine in November I have been focusing my sewing efforts on wristlets, cuffs, handbags and the like. Inspired by my friend Diane, I have itching to make clothing. I have made clothing (shirts, dresses & even pants!) in the past, but I am feeling rusting on the clothing tip, so I have started to warm up with some reconstructions, and some quickie tops from scratch. I am posting these for sale on my Etsy shop for pretty cheap.

Monsters!

I finished putting in the music boxes on my reconstructed stuffie monsters. Matt helped me name them, 'lil shorties name is Clawsome, and the tall one is Rufus. I love them, they have such character! Rufus seems a bit moody, but it fits him. Now I am having fun trying to figure out how to add multiple pics to a post...ah this will work just fine. P.S. I have these up for sale on my Etsy shop.

Am I a refashionista now?

I finished my first project for Wardrobe Refashion '06!

I used two v-neck tee shirts I had of that were the same style, different colors, different sizes, and rarely worn. I made a quick pattern from a shirt that I actually do wear, and surprisingly had just barely enough fabric between the two t's to make this one.

Yeah for holidays!

BBQ's, beaches, and the best of friends...it was a beautiful weekend in Maine, aka "Vacationland". I am finding it hard to get my head back in the game...

The Wardrobe Refashion Pledge

I Christini,
Pledge that I shall abstain from the purchase of "new" manufactured items of clothing, for the period of 2 months.
I Pledge that I shall refashion, renovate, recylcle pre-loved items for myself for the term of my contract.
I Pledge that I shall create and craft items of clothing for myself with my own hands in fabric, yarn or other medium for the term of my contract.
I Pledge that I will share the love and post a photo of my refashioned, renovoated, recylcled, crafted or created item of clothing on the Wardrobe Refashion blog, so that others may share the joy that thy thriftyness brings!
I am very excited about this project, and hope it will bring me some much needed focus!

Big Trash Day

has evolved into the "Bulky Waste Curbside Collection Program". It's a revision of big trash day, probably due to abuse. Big Trash Day turned into a sort of free for all mess at the end, and by mess I mean bulldozers to scoop up the totally out of control areas. It has always been a great resource for materials, a time to look forward to when in art school. Now they say if an item can be recycled or fits in a city trash bag, it is not considered for collection and will be tagged and left behind for proper disposal...anyhow I digress, since this totally sweet item doesn't qualify as big trash, but it was found curbside in a pile of junk. That's right, it's a solid state portable tv, Panasonic TR-475. Look how cute it is with it's little pop up tv screen. Totally ridiculous.

Leslie Hall is a genius...bow to the Keeper of the Gems

Maybe you've seen the animated gif of the her showcasing a fraction of her Gem Sweater collection, maybe you have heard the inspired musical meanderings of Leslie & the LY's, but have you been saved from eternal fashion damnation? I saw the sweaters but I didn't truly understand the Gospel of Lady Jams...until now.

I am in awe of Leslie Hall, and her unfaltering love and passion for Gold Pants and Gem Sweaters. I was able to check out her "Museum of Gem Sweaters" project for the Fifth Year Exhibition '06 at the School of the Musuem of Fine Arts, Boston, it was amazing. Since then I have day dreamed about the Mobile Museum of Gem Sweaters coming to my town...oh if only it were true.
